I was Kathy’s supervisor at Bowdoin, and on the search committee that helped recruit her. I recall vividly meeting Kathy in person, at the interview on campus -sensing in her an enthusiasm, a very specific wit, a warmth and brightness in her affect, and also a real passion for making a difference in the world writ large – librarianship, academia, truth. Lofty much? Oh yes, but real, very real. Kathy contributed much fine, and refined work to Bowdoin’s library catalog indeed, and we can and should honor her creative and curiosity – but it is for her unprocessed humanity, her ore of compassion and charity that I hold Kathy in my heart.
