Carl J. Cooper ’49

Carl J. Cooper ’49 died May 28, 2013, in Sedona, Ariz. He was born in Marlboro, Mass., on June 14, 1927, and prepared for college at Portland High School. He was a member of Alpha Rho Upsilon fraternity. He earned a master’s of education at Boston University in 1954 and a doctorate at the University of Massachusetts in 1962. He began his career in the public schools as a teacher in Orange, Mass., and Presque Isle, and as a director of guidance for the Northampton Public Schools. Following positions at Berkshire Community College, Carnegie Mellon University’s Carnegie Institute of Technology, and the University of New Hampshire, he began teaching psychology at Curry College in 1969 and was promoted to full professor in 1972. He served to corporal in the Army in the early 1950s. He is survived by his wife of fifty-six years, Judith Denzer Cooper; sons Daniel and Philip Cooper; and daughter Ellie Cooper.
