Paul W. Hurd II ’71, a longtime teacher and former head of the Hyde School in Bath, died in a car accident November 13, 2013, in Bath. He was born on December 16, 1947, in Bath and prepared for college at Princess Anne High School in Virginia Beach, Va.; Lincoln Academy, Morse High School, and Hyde School, where in 1966, he was the first student to enroll. He also scored the school’s first touchdown and went on to teach government there for more than thirty-five years. Continue reading

John F. McClellan ’71 died September 10, 2013, at his home in Marshfield, Mass. He was born in Quincy, Mass., on May 8, 1949, and graduated from Weymouth (Mass.) High School, where he was class president, won state titles in track and field, and led his basketball team to play at the Boston Garden. At Bowdoin, he was again class president, as well as president of Beta Theta Pi fraternity, captain of his basketball team—of which he was an Academic All-American—and a dean’s list student.
