Richard Alton Farr ’50

Richard Alton Farr ’50 died on March 27, 2007, of pulmonary failure in West Chicago, Illinois.

Born on March 2, 1927, in Augusta, he prepared for college at Hallowell High School and served in the U.S. Navy duringWorldWarIIanduntilhisdischarge in mid-1946. He entered Bowdoin in October of 1946 as a member of the Class of 1950 and became a member of Alpha Delta Phi Fraternity. Following his graduation in 1950, he had a career in chemistry with Eastman Kodak, Pittsburgh Plate Glass, Republic Steel, Baltimore Paint and Chemical, and Dexter Midland. In 1977, he received a master of business administration degree from Lake Forest College in Illinois. He retired in the early 1980s. He was a former member of the Goodrich-Caldwell American Legion Post in Hallowell, and a member of Evangel Baptist Church in Wheaton, Ill. He was married in 1956 to Alda DiBenedetto, who died in 2000, and is survived by two sons,Wesley Farr of Warrenville, Ill., and Dr. Everett Farr of Albuquerque, N.M.; a brother, George M. Farr ’52 of Eliot; a sister, Marion Hawkins of Augusta; and a granddaughter.
