Andrew J. Alexander Jr.

Andrew J. Alexander Jr., a long-time custodian at Bowdoin, died on May 25, 2009, in Brunswick, Maine.

He was born on December 9, 1925, in Lisbon Falls and graduated from Lisbon Falls High School in 1944. Immediately after graduation during World War II, he entered the Army and received a Purple Heart for a battle injury. He worked at the Farnsworth Mill, in addition to Bowdoin, where he was made an honorary member of the Alumni Association in recognition of his many years of service to the College. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mildred Dumas Alexander; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. He was predeceased by a daughter, Pauline Alexander Harvey in 2006.
