Dana H. Jones ’84

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dana Jones, 63, of Aquia Harbour, Virginia, on December 2, 2025. Dana, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, left us peacefully after a life full of love, laughter, and dedication.

Born on the coast of Maine, Dana’s love for the outdoors began at an early age, where he grew up hunting and fishing. He excelled in both lacrosse and basketball throughout high school and continued to pursue these passions at Bowdoin College, where he earned a degree in biology and environmental studies in 1984. After graduation, Dana relocated to Virginia with his college roommates, where he began his career and met the love of his life, Lisa.

Dana and Lisa were married on December 28, 1985, and embarked on a life full of adventure together. Their first years of marriage were spent in Hartford, Connecticut, before moving back to Virginia to settle in Aquia Harbour, where they raised three children: Bryan, Megan, and Alan. Dana’s commitment to his family was unwavering, and he was always present in his children’s lives, whether he was coaching their sports teams or creating memories that would last a lifetime.

One of Dana’s greatest passions was waterfowl hunting, a love that he shared with his sons and, at times, even encouraged his wife and daughter to join. The stories from those hunting trips will be passed down for generations. Dana’s infectious smile and dry, intellectual humor made him a joy to be around, and his friends and family alike will always remember the quiet wisdom and warmth he brought to every conversation.

Dana’s professional career spanned forty years, starting with his work at Versar ,before transitioning to the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA), where he worked in the Environmental Compliance Department. Known for his meticulous attention to detail and strong work ethic, Dana formed close bonds with his colleagues, who appreciated his intelligence, humor, and dedication.

In 2012, Dana’s world changed with the birth of his first grandchild. From that moment, he was overjoyed by his role as a grampa, and over the next few years, eight more grandchildren joined his growing family. He adored them all, finding immense joy in their presence and cherishing every moment spent with them.

Dana was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Eleanor Jones, his siblings, Jerry, Alan, Mark, and Anne; and his in-laws, George and Yvonne Beck. He is survived by his loving wife, Lisa; children Bryan (Brandy), Megan (Patrick Bienlien), and Alan (Katlyn); his grandchildren, Blake Jones, Brayden Jones, Ethan Bienlien, Addison Bienlien, Bailey Jones, Austin Bienlien, Benjamin Jones, Ian Bienlien, and Chase Jones who were his pride and joy; as well as his sister, Judy; his brother, Peter; and numerous extended family members and dear friends.

Dana’s legacy of love, dedication, and humor will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
