Donald Walker Hanson ’50

Donald Walker Hanson ’50 died on August 23, 2009, in Charlotte, North Carolina.

He was born on May 29, 1927, in Providence, R.I., and prepared for college at Hope High School and Worcester Academy. He also attended Brown University before enrolling at Bowdoin. He served in the Navy during World War II. He and his late wife owned Browning’s Inc. in East Greenwich, R.I., for many years until retiring in 1988. He was a colonel and a member of the Varnum Continentals of East Greenwich for more than 50 years and was president and commander from 1980 to 1993. He was a long-time member of the East Greenwich Yacht Club and worked for Vision Appraisal. He is survived by a daughter, Melinda Walter; two sons, Gregory Hanson and Jay Hanson; six grandchildren; and three great- grandchildren. He was predeceased by Nancy Stark Hanson, his wife of 57 years; by a son, Christopher Hanson; and by a brother, Herbert Hanson ’43.
