Dorothy McFadden, a former Bowdoin staff member for twenty-seven years in the business office, athletics, and the development office, and an honorary member of the Bowdoin Alumni Association, died on September 16, 2017, in Brunswick, Maine.

BRUNSWICK — Dorothy (Dottie) McFadden, 86, passed away Saturday, September 16, 2017, at Mid Coast Hospital. She was born in Topsham, May 28, 1931, the only child of James P. and Nellie Doyle Morrill. She was a 1949 graduate of Brunswick High School.
On July 15, 1950, she married Davis L. McFadden whom she first met when she was thirteen years old. Dottie worked as a secretary for a local judge, Leon Spinney. She also worked at Day’s Jewelry followed by a twenty-seven-year career at Bowdoin College in various departments including the service bureau, athletics, and development. She retired in 1992 and continued to be an avid supporter of Bowdoin hockey until her death.
Dottie loved to read and was a talented seamstress, quilter, and knitter. She enjoyed gardening and spending as much time as possible at her family camp on Skunk Point, Moosehead Lake. She was an original member of Ocean Waves Quilters, Orr’s Island, and the Bailey Island Tuna Club. She loved life, her friends, and her family.
She is survived by her husband, Davis; sons Gary N. McFadden (and his partner, Susan Saveikonis), Georgetown, and Brad A. McFadden (Cindy), Orr’s Island; grandchildren Sarah H. Pennell, Cundy’s Harbor, Eben J. McFadden, Bailey Island, and Todd McFadden, Boulder, CO; and six great-grandchildren. Dottie was predeceased by her parents and her grandson, Connor McFadden.
