Edward A. Welch Jr. ’62 died on August 16, 2016, in Marshfield, Massachusetts.

WELCH, Edward A., Jr. “Ed” Of Marshfield, passed away on August 16, 2016, at the age of 76. Beloved husband of the late Judith M. (Yelle) Welch. Dear father of Edward A. Welch, III and his wife Paula, and Lori (Welch) Mattes. He was the proud grandfather of Aidan, Devin, Paul, Delaney, and Rachael. Mr. Welch was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Ed was a resident of Marshfield since 1973. He was raised in Newton by Edward & Anne Welch. He graduated Bowdoin College in 1962, Suffolk Law University in 1969, becoming a member of the Massachusetts Bar that same year. “Mr. Pooh” taught at East Boston High School, and Boston Trade High School, continuing on in the teaching community as an elected official of the Boston Teachers Union from 1979-2009. He served several terms with the Boston Retirement Board and the Tremont Credit Union. He enjoyed his retirement, much of which was spent at Foxwoods, doing what he liked best, playing poker, and finishing on a winning streak.”Big Ed” was a character not to be forgotten. His gruff manner could not hide his generous and kind soul. Fonder of dogs than humans, he brought goodness to this world as a role model with an unwavering sense of right from wrong. He will be remembered for his boundless generosity, a penchant for the finer things in life, and indulging in his beloved vices.
