Edwin F. Stetson ’41 died January 5, 2015, in Chevy Chase, Maryland.
He was born in New York City on May 23, 1918, to Rufus Edwin Stetson, of the Bowdoin Class of 1908, and Irma Tierney. He prepared for college at Trinity School in New York. At Bowdoin, he was a member of Zeta Psi fraternity and participated on the fencing team. He served as a 2nd lieutenant in the Army between 1942 and 1946. He later earned a law degree at the University of Virginia in 1949 and practiced law in both Maine and Washington, DC. Stetson was an active member of the Bowdoin Alumni Club throughout his life. His first wife, Joan Cassidy, with whom he had four children, predeceased him. He is also predeceased by his brothers Rufus ’42 and William. He is survived by his second wife of thirty-two years, Julia Talavera, and children Barbara Vanamee ’78, John, Stephen, and Sarah; stepdaughters Cristina Talavera and Julie Talaver Pflieger; fifteen grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
