George J. Kern ’45

George J. Kern ’45 died on January 31, 2012, in Portland, Maine.

PORTLAND — George Kern, 89, of Portland, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2012. George was born on Dec. 3, 1923 to the late George and Katherine (Johnson) Kern.

George spent the first dozen years of his life as an average preteen. Then, at the age of 12 he lost his leg in a serious accident. For the next 70 odd years he just hopped around. (As written by George himself). George will always be remembered for his unique character and sense of humor.

He is predeceased by his wife Bertha. Surviving are his three daughters, Susan, Sally, and Nancy Kern, a son, Stephen Kern and his wife Laura; two grandchildren, Amanda Kern, and Rebecca Dyson; and a sister Katrina Rich.
