James H. Goddard Jr. ’51 died on October 1, 2019, in Vero Beach, Florida.

James Harold Goddard Jr, 93, of Chatham, Massachusetts and Vero Beach, Florida passed away on the morning of October 1, 2019. Jim was born on November 25, 1925, in Boston, to James Harold Goddard Sr and Marion Potter Lake (Goddard) of Newton, MA, who also had a daughter, the late Gloria (Goddard) Cutler of Squantum, MA. Jim was predeceased by his first wife Nancy Anne Leonard, of Chestnut Hill, MA, on September 11, 2001 in Vero Beach, FL.
Jim and Nancy had three children, the late James Harold Goddard III, of Ashburnham, MA; John Halsey Goddard II, of Ayer, MA; and the late Linda Alden (Goddard) Brown of Vineyard Haven, MA.
Jim retired from E F Hutton Co in 1985 and later moved with Nancy to Vero Beach, FL in 1991. He graduated sum cum laude from Bowdoin College in 1951 after having served in the US Army Air-corp school of Navigation from 1943 to 1944. Previously Jim graduated from Chauncey Hall School in Boston, and of Newton Country Day and of Oak Hill School K – 4, a one room school house.
Jim is survived by his wife of seventeen years, Judith Hoyt-Goddard of Chatham, MA and Vero Beach, FL, and his daughter’s family; William E. Brown Jr. of Vinyard Haven, MA, and their children; Jennifer Alden Brown, William Edward Brown, Emily Forest Coulter, Jessica Lake Whitaker, and great-grand children Madeleine Coulter, Eloise Coulter, and Maggie James Whitaker.
