James Matthew Belknap ’56 died on November 23, 2003, in Damariscotta, Maine.

Born on July 3, 1934, in Damariscotta, he prepared for college at Lincoln Academy and became a member of Zeta Psi Fraternity at Bowdoin, which he attended from 1952 to 1954. For many years he was self-employed as a carpenter, working much of the time with home remodeling and restoration. Surviving are a son, Brian Belknap of Damariscotta; two daughters, Karen Gifford and Lori McCullagh, also of Damariscotta; two stepsons, Milton Hannan and Mark Hannan of Damariscotta; two brothers, Robert W. Belknap, Jr. ’45 of Damariscotta and David J. Belknap ’58 of Damariscotta; and two sisters, Ruth Bickford and Martha Reed, both of Damariscotta.
