John L. Davis ’53 died on October 5, 2021, in Martinsburg, West Virginia

John Litchfield Davis, 89, of Falling Waters, passed away October 5, 2021, at Berkeley Medical Center, Martinsburg, West Virginia. John was born March 5, 1932, in Weymouth, MA, he was the son of the late Stanley Whitcome Davis and Winnifred (Lamb) Davis. He received his bachelor’s degree from Bowdoin College and his PhD from the University of Maryland and was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He was a research physicist for the Naval Research Lab in Washington DC studying the properties of new semiconductor materials. John’s enthusiasm for learning continued throughout his life. He built the desk and bookcase for his office in his workshop in Virginia. He built the family grandfather clock, repaired several clocks, and maintained a small clock collection. His other hobbies and interests ranged from computer programming to metalworking and working with a scroll saw. In the past year, he studied and received his FCC amateur radio license, call sign KE8RCR, and he embarked on a project to learn continuous wave (CW) – Morse code – online with the Long Island CW Club. John was married for sixty years to Mary Morgan Davis who preceded him in death this year. He is survived by two sons, Michael William Davis and wife Gabriele, and Andrew Morgan Davis and wife Ann; four grandchildren, Leila Busey, John Davis, Talia Arvizo, and Ben Davis; five great-grandchildren, Kai, Kollyn, and Kolby Walker, and Addyson and Isabella Busey, and sister Ruth Davis. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his sister JoAnn Lukin and brother-in-law Joe Lukin, and brother, Alan Davis.
