Joseph J. Dowd ’61 died on May 22, 2018, in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
Director of Fairfax CATS unit and Investment Banker Joseph J. Dowd, seventy-nine, of Gettysburg, PA, passed away at Gettysburg Hospital on May 22, 2018, in the presence of his loving family. The cause was cancer according to his family. Joe Dowd, the son of Paul and Mary Dowd, was born on New Year’s Day 1939 in Goddard Hospital in Brockton, MA, and raised with his four brothers and three sisters in Canton and Holden, MA, Mclean, VA, Birmingham, AL and Manhasset, NY. He attended public schools in Canton and Holden, MA; graduated from Bowdoin College in Maine with a BA degree and received an MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College. He enjoyed a very successful career as an investment banker in New York and London. His greatest achievement was serving in several roles, including Director, for the Comprehensive Addiction Treatment Services (CATS) unit at Fairfax Hospital in Virginia from the early 1990’s to 2009, helping those addicted to alcohol and drugs. He was an avid golfer and loved his days with his friends on the Mountain View golf course in Fairfield, PA. He leaves his two brothers, three sisters and countless nieces and nephews.
