Prudence Priscilla Smith

Prudence Priscilla Smith, who worked at the College for 25 years before retiring in 1987, died on December 6, 2003, in Bath, Maine.

Born in Brunswick on August 14, 1925, she was graduated from Brunswick High School in 1943 and then attended Westbrook Junior College and Western Union Telegraph School in Washington, DC. She worked as a teleprinter operator for Western Union in Portland and Brunswick for a few years and joined the staff at Bowdoin in 1962, working as a receptionist in the Moulton Union, the Admissions Office, and what was then the Senior Center. At her retirement in 1987, she was elected an Honorary Member of the Alumni Association. A member of St. Charles Borromeo Church in Brunswick, she is survived by her husband, Robert L. Smith, whom she married in 1945; two daughters, Brenda Rapp of Thornton, CO, and Dianne Ross of Owl’s Head; two sons, Craig A. Smith of Dracut, MA, and David W. Smith of Portland; and four grandchildren.
