Richard Vander Venter Kemper ’35 died on May 10, 2009, in Roanoke, Virginia.
He was born on May 12, 1912, in Butte, Mont., and prepared for college at Newton (Mass.) High School. He attended Bowdoin from 1931 to 1933 as a member of Zeta Psi fraternity. He served as a second lieutenant in the Signal Corps during World War II, and later worked in various capacities for the CNA Insurance Company in Reading, Penn. He was an avid sailor, traveling the East Coast and the Caribbean in his 34-foot ketch. He is survived by his wife, Frances Kimzey Riley Kemper, and son Richard Kemper.
