Robert C. Blaney, Jr. ’99 died on June 12, 2023, in Milton, Massachusetts.

Robert C. Blaney, Jr., age 46, of Taunton, passed away on Tuesday, June 12, 2023, after a courageous and valiant battle with cancer at Seasons Hospice in Milton. He was the devoted husband for thirteen years to the love of his life, Elisabeta (Gega) Blaney.
Born in Boston, Rob the first child born to Susan (Johnson) Blaney and the late Robert C. Blaney, Sr. He was raised and grew up in the Boston neighborhood of Dorchester and graduated as the class valedictorian from South Boston High School.
Following graduation from high school, Rob advanced his education by attending Bowdoin College in Maine, where he received his bachelor’s degree. With the desire to further his education and credentials, Rob earned his master’s degree in education from the University of Massachusetts-Boston.
A kind and caring man with the desire to help others, Rob dedicated much of his life to mentoring and educating children and young adults. Rob was currently working as the Youth Commission Director for the Town of Dedham. In his role he provided educational, socio-emotional, recreational and health programs and services to the young people of Dedham. Prior to his employment in Dedham, Rob was the director of the Upward Bound Program at UMASS- Boston, where he strived to assist low-income, first-generation college-bound high school students in the successful completion of secondary education.
Outside of the office, and with a passion for music, Rob was the owner and operator of his own DJ business. Known as DJ Big Daddy Rob, he traveled throughout various locations in New England, performing for various events such as weddings, graduations, proms, and many more celebratory occasions.
In his spare time, Rob enjoyed listening to music, traveling, trying new things, and going out to eat. Rob loved spending time with his family in Plymouth, where they would treat themselves to ice cream and fried dough. Above all, Rob was most happy when he was in the presence of and making memories with his dear family, especially his wife and daughter.
In addition to his wife and mother, Rob is survived by his proud and cherished daughter: Isabella Blaney; his siblings: Miles Blaney and Lynn Blaney; his nephews: Jacob “Jake” Blaney, Matthew Blaney, Sam, Kevin, Grant, and Mason; his mother-in-law: Ana Gega; his sisters-in-laws: Stela Gega-McCounaghy and her husband Steve and Greta Gega; and numerous friends and extended family members.
