Robert Dale Strong ’51

Robert Dale Strong ’51 died on August 26, 2007, in Damariscotta, Maine.

Born there on October 8, 1929, he prepared for college at Lincoln Academy in Newcastle and became a member of Zeta Psi Fraternity at Bowdoin. Following his graduation in 1953 as a member of the Class of 1951, he was an automobile dealer with General Motors Acceptance Corporation in Portland until 1956, when he became the owner of Strong Chevrolet in Damariscotta, a business that he continued to operate until 1997. He played the piano at many dances and shows and played bridge every Wednesday for more than 50 years. He served for more than 20 years as a trustee of Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta and was the president of its board for many years. He also served as a member of the board of the Lincoln Home and the Eldercare Network and served as commander of the Wawenock Power Squadron.A member of the Second Congregational Church in Newcastle, he is survived by his wife, Jean Stetson Strong, whom he married in 1950; two daughters, Valerie Seibel and Betsy Mahan, both of Damariscotta; eight grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.
