Robert J. Chamberlin ’53 died on June 12, 2018, in Avon, Connecticut.
Robert J. “Bob” Chamberlin, eighty-six, of Farmington, beloved husband of Miriam (Johnsen) passed away June 12, 2018. Bob was born in White Plains, New York, and was raised in New Rochelle and Scarsdale, New York. He was the son of the late Robert H. Chamberlin and Helen Ferguson. Bob received his undergraduate degree from Bowdoin College and his master’s degree from Union Theological Seminary of Columbia University. Bob served as Pastor at Grace Union Church in Wilbraham, Massachusetts for a short period of time. He then went on to work in the Financial Services industry for Traveler’s Insurance Company in Human Resources, and in executive management positions at Colonial Bank & Trust, and CT Mutual (now MassMutual). During his professional career, he was active in community affairs, serving on the boards and councils of several church and city organizations, as well as the Board of Literacy Volunteers of Connecticut, and as an Incorporator and Director of Child Care Centers of Waterbury. In retirement, he was a volunteer with The Historians Roundtable, teaching grammar school children about the experiences of the Greatest Generation, and, as a member of VISTA, managed the mentor program for students in the East Hartford School System. Bob and his wife were members of Valley Community Baptist Church in Avon. Bob is survived by his wife; Miriam “Mimi” Chamberlin of Farmington, his sons; Attorney Robert “Mark” (Mary) Chamberlin and Dr. Douglas “Eric” Chamberlin (Barbara) of Glastonbury, his grandchildren; Jeffrey R. Chamberlin and Thomas E. Chamberlin, his brother; Thomas H. Chamberlin (Bonnie) of Bonneau Beach, SC, his sisters; Ann Birnie of Oakville, Ontario, Canada and Jean Bennett (William) of Portland, ME, and his longtime friend Kathy Keane of Cromwell.
