Robert Sturgis Spooner ’51 died on September 19, 2003, in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Born on June 27, 1929, he prepared for college at the Mount Hermon School in Massachusetts and became a member of Delta Upsilon Fraternity at Bowdoin. Following his graduation in 1951, he served in the U.S. Army for two years, and then joined the Bradford S. Skinner Insurance Agency in Springfield, MA, where he worked until 1959, when he joined the Allstate Insurance Company. In 1962, he became the New York Capital District sales manager for National Insurance Companies. He furthered his education by obtaining the professional designations Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter and Certified Public Accountant. He retired from the Hartford Insurance Group in 1989, following 15 years of teaching property and casualty insurance. He was married in 1951 to Barbara Skinner, who died in 1997, and is survived by his second wife, Carolyn Roberg Spooner; three children; and three stepchildren.
