Major Sidney E. Walton Jr. ’55 died May 8, 2014, in Sumter, S.C. He was born in Boston on April 23, 1933, and graduated from South Portland High School. He attended Bowdoin from 1951 to 1953, a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity, and earned a bachelor of science degree from the University of South Carolina in 1975. He served 20 years in the Air Force, retiring in 1973 as a major. He was awarded a Distinguished Flying Cross (3), Air Medal (17). After returning to civilian life, he worked as an accountant. He is survived by his son, Bill Walton, and daughter Nancy. He was predeceased in 1983 by his wife, Helen Van Hine Walton, whom he married on August 12, 1957.
