Thomas B. Wheeler ’71 died on September 11, 2018, in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

Thomas Brooks Wheeler, MD, 69, of Orwigsburg, Pennsylvania, passed away Tuesday at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, Allentown. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, March 16, 1949, he was the son of the late Paul L. and Elizabeth T. Wheeler. Tom graduated from Bowdoin College, Maine,where he was a member of Alpha Delta Phi Fraternity, and he received a masters degree in history at the University of Virginia. He received his medical degree from The Medical College of Pennsylvania (now Drexel University College of Medicine) and completed residencies at Einstein Medical Center, Philadelphia, and McGill University Health Center, Montreal. Tom was very knowledgeable about American history, especially the Civil War, and a collector and enthusiast of classical and jazz music. Tom was preceded in death by his brother, Brian L. Wheeler, in 2010. He is survived by his sister, Deborah, wife of W. Russell Harris, Reading, Mass., his son, Matthew Wheeler, Tucson, Ariz., his daughter, Hannah Wheeler, Washington, DC, his friend and former spouse, Wendi Wheeler, Orwigsburg, and nephews and nieces, Scott Harris, husband of Kayla, Medford, Mass., and Inara and Bergen Wheeler, Louisville, Colo. Tom was a board certified orthopedic surgeon who practiced in Tamaqua and Coaldale and later in Pottsville. He was a member of the American Medical Association and St. Johns UCC, Orwigsburg.
