Timothy B. Stearns ’56 died on September 20, 2017, in Augusta, Maine.

Timothy Bardsley Stearns, of Manchester and Orlando, Fla., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Sept. 20, surrounded by friends and family.
Tim was born on April 1, 1934, son of Ralph C. and Hazel B. Stearns of Rumford, Maine.
Tim attended Stevens High School in Rumford, Maine Central Institute and was a 1956 ROTC graduate of Bowdoin College. While at Bowdoin Tim married his childhood sweetheart, Fay Allen. After college, he was stationed in Budingen, Germany, with the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged with the rank of captain.
Tim then spent many years with Sears, Roebuck and Co., managing stores throughout the Northeast. Tim and Fay eventually settled in Manchester on Lake Cobbosseecontee. Their home was the hub of activity for their family and friends for many years. He was an avid golfer (an understatement) and longtime member of the Augusta Country Club, where his putting and gamesmanship are legendary.
Tim and Fay leave behind three children and families, Susan (Stearns) and Bradley Simmons, of Rowayton, Conn., Robert and Jennifer Stearns, of Westerly, R.I., and Kelly (Stearns) and Tuck Irwin of Falmouth; and six grandchildren, Andrew Stearns, Sarah Stearns, Abigail Stearns, Dudley Irwin, Brittin Irwin and Maxwell Simmons. Tim is survived by four siblings; Natalie and George Wilson, Sally Walker, Aretas and Claire Stearns, and Ron and Victoria Lessa. Tim leaves behind many dear nieces and nephews and many close friends.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Fay Allen Stearns; and his good friend and brother-in-law, Randy Walker, husband of his sister Sally.
The family is grateful to the Togus VA and Hospice Center, Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice, Orlando VA and many others for their dedication and loving care.
