William Varnum Copeland ’33 died on September 1, 2004, in Orlando, Florida.
Born on November 19, 1912, in Pawtucket, RI, he prepared for college at Pawtucket Senior High School and became a member of Chi Psi Fraternity at Bowdoin.
Following his graduation in 1935 as a member of the Class of 1933, he was in the insurance business for many years, managing the Providence, RI, office of the Liberty Mutual Insurance Company.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to January of 1946, attaining the rank of lieutenant junior grade.
After the war he was for some years a member of the Pawtucket Naval Reserve Unit. He served as president of the Lincoln Country Club while in Rhode Island.
He moved to Florida in 2000. He was married in 1937 to Imelda Gauvin, who died in 1988, and they had a son, Loren V. Copeland.
