Allison C. Edwards ’50

Allison C. Edwards ’50 died at his home April 17, 2014, in Gorham. He was born in Auburn on December 4, 1927, and prepared for Bowdoin at Deering High School and Portland Junior College (now University of Southern Maine). He was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity, and attended Brown University for graduate school in banking. He was drafted into the Army in 1950 and served for two years during the Korean War. He worked for 10 years at Canal National Bank in Portland, then moved to Gorham Savings Bank in 1961 as assistant treasurer. He retired in 1992 as president and CEO, and stayed on as chairman of the Board of Trustees until 1999. He was a member and 32nd degree Mason of the Cornerstone Lodge #216, and a member of the Kora Shrine Temple for more than 50 years. He is survived by his wife of nearly 62 years, Janice Shane Edwards; daughters Pamela Edwards, Lisa Kelton and Marcia Hogan; son Jonathan; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
