Alvin K. Funderburg G’62, died on October 10, 2013, in West Carrollton, Ohio.
He was born on September 16, 1916, in Clark County, Ohio, He earned master’s degrees in science and mathematics at Machester College in 1938 and at the University of Colorado. He served to lieutenant colonel in the Army Air Forces as a navigator and bombardier during WWII and completed twenty-six combat missions over North Korea with the Air Force in 1950. He taught for twenty-six years in the Fairborn and Kettering school systems in Ohio, with eighteen years as chairman of the mathematics department of Fairmont High School. During retirement, Alvin wrote books on family history, one novel, and a series of five books on religious topics. As a member of Gideon’s International, his specialty was visiting and testifying at the Montgomery County Jail. He was a long-time member of the Grace Bible Church in Springfield. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Marie Funderburg; daughter Lois McCracken; son Franklyn Funderburg; stepdaughter Barbara Cremeans; stepsons Terry and Steven Fisher; thirteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and four step-grandchildren. He was predeceased by daughter Evelyn Delgado, sisters Ruth Botkin and Edna Metzger, and brother Glen Funderburg.
