Betty Anne Green died on March 25, 2026, in Topsham, Maine.

TOPSHAM – Betty Ann Arthur Green, of Topsham, passed away on March 25, 2026, due to natural causes.
Betty was born on Oct. 2, 1930, in Birmingham, Ala., to Thelma and James C. Arthur, Jr., and was one of five children.
She graduated from Woodlawn High School in 1947 and attended Alverson Business College in Birmingham, Ala.
In Birmingham, Ala., she worked at Title Guarantee and Trust Company and Alabama Power Company.
In 1954 she married her husband, Richard F. Green, then came to Maine where they raised their three children.
Betty had deaf parents and deaf siblings and grew up as the interpreter for her family members. She had many deaf friends in Alabama and when she came to Maine she found deaf friends here as well. In Maine she was a member of the Maine RID (Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf) and did interpreting in Maine.
She taught sign classes in Topsham for many years and was proud of the fact that a couple of her students became professional interpreters and one became a teacher of the deaf.
Betty and her husband had many fun years living winters in Florida and made many friends there.
Family was very important to her and she loved any time spent with her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved going to her family reunions in Alabama and made an effort to never miss one.
She worked as a medical secretary for Dr Daniel Hanley at the Bowdoin College Infirmary. She always said she loved her job. When Dr. Hanley became the Chief Medical Doctor for the Olympics, she was his secretary and had the opportunity to travel to Olympic training sites and the privilege of attending an Olympic game.
Betty enjoyed painting, especially her porcelain pieces which she loved to give to special friends. Her bridge club group were special friends and she looked forward to their weekly games which lasted for over 60 years.
Betty was a member of the 67th Street Methodist Church in Birmingham, Ala. before transferring to the United Methodist Church in Brunswick where she has been an active member until her death.
She was predeceased by her husband, Richard, of sixty-five years; her parents; her sisters Doris Tillman, Pauline Roberts, Imogene Gaines, and a brother, Jimmy Arthur.
She is survived by a son, Richard and his wife, Pam, a son, Gregg and his wife Lisa, a daughter, Kathy Dewispelaere and her husband Tom; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren; and a special brother-in-law, Bill Tillman.
