Bradlee M. Backman ’48 died August 15, 2013, at his home in Marblehead, Mass. He was born in Marblehead on November 27, 1926, and prepared for college at Lynn (Mass.) English High School. He was a member of Alpha Rho Upsilon fraternity. He graduated from Boston University School of Law in 1951, and he studied international law at Harvard University and education at the University of Southern California and Salem State University. He served to private in the Army Air Forces during World War II. He worked at Backman Management in Lynn, where he practiced law and real estate management. He was also very active in the civil rights movement. He is survived by his wife of twenty-nine years, Grace Hayden Backman; sons Garett, Bruce, and Charles Backman; daughter Jill Backman; stepdaughters Joan Martino, Eileen Driscoll, and Ellen Graham; stepson Michael Driscoll; thirteen grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
