Bruce D. Osborne ’74 died on November 19, 2023, in Augusta, Maine.
(The following was provided by Plummer Funeral Home in December 12, 2023:)
AUGUSTA– Bruce Duncan Osborne, age 71, passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully on Sunday November 19, 2023, in Augusta, ME. Bruce was born February 9, 1952, in East Orange, NJ, the first child of Richard and Sonia Osborne, and he grew up primarily in Ohio and Western Massachusetts. He was a graduate of Berkshire School in Sheffield, MA, Bowdoin College in Brunswick, ME, and Brooklyn Law School in New York. After practicing law in New York for several years he moved back to Maine because he loved the scenic beauty, the lifestyle, and the wonderful people. For the last few years of his life he was employed by the State of Maine as a real estate investigator before retiring in 2022.
Bruce was a gentle giant of a man who was unfailingly kind to anyone who crossed his path. He loved nothing more than being outside, hiking and canoeing in the wilderness, particularly in his beloved Maine. He lived on Lake Maranacook, outside Augusta for a number of years, and never seemed happier than when he was out enjoying the peace of the lake on a pontoon boat with friends. He went on dozens of canoe trips on the Allagash in far northern Maine with his many similarly inclined friends. The Allagash was probably his favorite place on earth, although he developed a passion for ocean cruises all around the world later in life. He was also passionate about doing charitable work, particularly for the United Way of Kennebec Valley, where he served on the board from 2015 through 2021, and since college he had always remained involved with his fraternity at Bowdoin, Beta Theta Pi.
Bruce will be fondly remembered by his many friends, scattered all over the country, and he is survived by a ninety-six-year-old father in Massachusetts, and his siblings: Rod in MA, Julie (Ladky) in WI, and Jennifer (Prescott) in CT.
