BRUNSWICK – Carol A. (Stewart) Schneidewind, 92, died Monday, Jan. 12, 2026, at Hillhouse Assisted Living. She was born in Newark, NJ on Feb 8, 1933, a daughter of Fred J. and Doris (Bartlett) Stewart.

Carol grew up in Verona, NJ, went to Verona High, then to Bucknell University. For Carol’s last two years she attended Skidmore College graduating in 1955. Carol met Gil through mutual friends in New Jersey. They loved to go eat at Pal’s Cabin and get White Castle burgers, and go to the Jersey Shore. They were married on Dec. 28, 1957, in Verona, NJ.

Since Gil was in the Navy, after flight school they lived in Pensacola, Fla., then after two years, the three Schneidewind’s took a boat to live in Eva, Hawaii then after seven moves and three more children, Carol and Gil settled in per Carol ‘’her wonderful small town of Brunswick”. Carol was a proud Navy wife as Gil was a Naval Aviator. Carol’s job was challenging as Gil was sometimes away for six months on deployment. Carol and the four children really missed Gil. When the children were grown Carol went back to work. At one time Carol was the executive secretary to the Bowdoin College president, and also held two other positions at Bowdoin.

Carol has been an active member of the First Parish Church, Brunswick, having served in several positions including the FPC Memorial Garden Chair, Board of Trustees Chair, and as a member of the Christian Outreach Committee. She volunteered at Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Program, Brunswick, and served on the board of the Pine Tree Society, Bath, as well as serving for the Independence Association. Carol was especially proud of having been a member of the Royal River Chorus, Sweet Adelines from Yarmouth from 1993 -1999. Mom loved to harmonize.

Carol loved adventures, especially traveling with Gil to Bermuda and riding on mopeds. There were many vacations in warm places like Hawaii, Antigua, St. Maarten, Cozumel, Mexico plus. Carol enjoyed reading, playing piano, class reunions, photography and most of all Maine.
