Collie R. Wright ’78 died on July 20, 2017, in Dayton, Texas.
(The following was published in the Minden Press Herald, July 28, 2017:)
On March 20, 1956, in Houston, Texas, Cortez and Louise Wright welcomed their third child, a daughter named Collie Renee. She joined older brothers, Cortez Jr. and Drew to complete their family.
Deeply spiritual since an early age she gave herself wholly to the Lord. At her church, Bethlehelm B.C. she was a choir director.
She was a very intelligent child and would later graduate from Kashmere High School at the top of her class. She then earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine. While at Bowdoin, she became a member of its honor society and played basketball.
Collie was musically gifted and could play multiple instruments including the piano and flute. She had a very beautiful voice and performed many solos that gracefully resounded with the audience.
She was also a charismatic woman, able to connect and make friends with anyone. She was adored by many for her loving, energetic spirit and her infectious laugh.
The Lord called Collie Renee home on July 20, 2017. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Drew Wright.
She is survived by her only son, Andrew Wright; brother, Cortez Wright Jr. (Gretta); nieces, Courtney Wright and Madaline Wright-Reed; devoted friend, Marilyn Brown and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and cherished friends. She shall remain in the hearts and minds of many.
Collie, I will always remember you for introducing me to Stevie Wonder!
