David C. Mechem ’64 died on May 22, 2017, in Kensington, New Hampshire.

David Mechem, 75, was a graduate of Belmont Hill School where he learned the times table to the 15th place and Bowdoin College where he was known for his skating prowess on the hockey rink. He was also known for his sailing skill both in Annisquam, Mass., where he summered, and nationally for Bowdoin College.
He joined the Coast Guard and served in Vietnam as a LTJG.
He was in the insurance business before opening his marine canvas business, Seacoast Canvas, in Newburyport, Mass.
He was also commodore of the Annisquam Yacht Club from 2007 to 2009.
He leaves his life partner, Linda Bennett; his son, Timothy Mechem; his sister, Lyn Fenollosa; and innumerable beloved family members and friends.
In lieu of flowers, please spend time on a boat this summer or at least look at the sea and think of the gentle loving soul who was David, happiest when messing about with boats.
