David M. Jones ’77 died on March 11, 2010, in Plymouth, Massachusetts.

Dr. David M. Jonas, 54, of Plymouth, formerly of Dighton, MA, passed away on March 11, 2010, in the loving embrace of his family. David had fought a long and courageous battle against brain cancer.

David received his undergraduate degree from Bowdoin College and then followed his passion for animals to Tufts School of Veterinary Medicine. He was a partner with Doug Williams at the Assonet Animal Hospital for many years. David cared for all types of animals with compassion and good judgment.

In addition to having a successful career, David spent many hours volunteering his time at causes that were close to his heart. He served as the secretary at the Freetown State Forest, tutored GED students in math, read to children at Head Start, and provided veterinary services at the New Bedford Zoo.

David also enjoyed farming on his land, fishing, hiking and riding his motorcycle. He was a member of several clubs where he pursued these activities. David also enjoyed live music and was a big fan of his brother Steven’s bands. David was very creative and loved to write. He published his first children’s book in 2009.

David is survived by his loving parents, Donna and Albert Jonas, and by Philip, Steven, Laura, Sandra, Elaine, Matthew, and Laurel Jonas.
