David R. Wood ’55

David R. Wood ’55 died March 9, 2014, in Livingston, Mont. He was born on January 18, 1933, in Chicago, and prepared for college at Hinsdale (Ill.) High School and Millburn (N.J.) High School. He attended Bowdoin from 1951 to 1953, a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity. He enlisted in the Air Force shortly before the end of the Korean War and served to first lieutenant, ending his enlistment with a tour of duty at Mather Field in Sacramento, Calif. He graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1960, and earned a master’s of business administration from Stanford University in 1962. He was involved in many aspects of the finance and investment business. The first “associate” of Callan & Associates, he was a trailblazer in the pension consulting business. In 1981 he began his final career as a placement agent for private equity firms with clients such as KKR, Hellman Friedman, and The Blackstone Group. He was a member of the USTA Super Senior Doubles Championship Team in 2003. He is survived by his wife, Sherri Lewis Wood, whom he married in 1992; daughter Dayna Deaton; son Peter Wood; and two granddaughters. He was previously married to Gail Wolfsohn.
