Edward Scott “Ned” d’Entremont ’65
Edward Scott “Ned” d’Entremont, age 83, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2026, at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis, Massachusetts, surrounded by the warmth and comfort of his family.
Born on February 7, 1943, in Stoughton, Massachusetts, Ned was the cherished son of Wilford and Jean d’Entremont. He grew up in Hanover, Massachusetts, where he excelled as an honors student and a standout three-sport athlete at Hanover High School. He went on to attend Bowdoin College, graduating with the Class of 1965. While at Bowdoin, Ned proudly played varsity basketball and baseball and was a member of the ROTC. Ned also pitched two seasons in the Cape Cod league, fostering a lifelong love for competition and teamwork.
Following graduation, Ned answered the call to service, rising to the rank of captain in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Upon returning from deployment, he was stationed at Fort Dix, New Jersey. It was during this time that fate stepped in: Ned met Elizabeth “Lynne” Stevens, a physical therapist working in nearby Philadelphia. The two were married on February 8, 1969, embarking on a beautiful fifty-seven-year journey of marriage, deep partnership, and family. After his honorable discharge, Ned and Lynne settled in Pennsylvania, raising their family primarily in the Upper Main Line suburbs of Philadelphia, and later splitting their time between Paoli, Pennsylvania, and Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
Ned spent his professional career in commercial sales for a window manufacturer, retiring in 2008. He was known by all who knew him for his dry sense of humor, his steady pragmatism, and his remarkable ability to fix absolutely anything around the house.
Sports were a driving rhythm in Ned’s life. He was a devoted, lifelong fan of his original hometown teams—the Red Sox, Celtics, and Patriots—while happily adopting his second home’s Phillies, Sixers, and Eagles. More than just a spectator, Ned poured himself into local sports. He spent years coaching his sons’ youth basketball and Little League teams and later served as the pitching coach for the Conestoga American Legion baseball team long after his own children had aged out of the program. In retirement, Ned took up golf, famously and characteristically wondering aloud why the game was so difficult when “no one was playing defense.” Above all, his favorite moments were spent in the bleachers and at various school events, proudly supporting his grandchildren in all their endeavors. Above all, he was a proud Pop-Pop. He and Lynne were also faithful, longtime members of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Devon, Pennsylvania.
Ned’s greatest legacy is his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Lynne d’Entremont. He is also survived by his two sons and their families: Edward Scott d’Entremont, Jr, and his wife, Dr. Tracy d’Entremont, of Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, along with their children Sydney (26), Jack (24), and Riley (19), and granddaughter-in-law Alayna d’Entremont; and Jeffrey Barton d’Entremont and his wife, Jessica, of South Kingstown, Rhode Island, along with their children Benjamin (22) and Nicholas (19). Ned was preceded in death by his parents, Wilford and Jean d’Entremont.
