He spent his childhood in West Hartford, Conn., and graduated from Kingswood School; then went on to graduate from Bowdoin College. He served in the Korean War as a sergeant in the Army Artillery. He was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous where he valued many long and active friendships. He was a former member of Arundel Yacht Club where he sailed with family and friends for many years. Playing doubles tennis with a local group was a favorite pastime for over 40 years, and he also downhill skied with family and friends for over 50 years. He had an annual, thriving vegetable garden until recent years. He was also very interested in history and could often be found reading and learning more about it. He and his wife traveled frequently with Elderhostel, often to learn more about history.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 34 years, Elizabeth A. Green, of Kennebunk; and his children Robert Douglas Green, of Belhaven, N.C.; John Duncan Green and his wife Susan, of Lyman; and Julia Lisa Buchanan of Arvada, Colo.; as well as a brother, Thomas D.
