Dear Friends of Elward,

It is with great sadness that we are writing to share the news that Elward slipped away last Thursday, 11th March, in the home where he has been looked after for the past two years, the Résidence de Sèvres, at  81bis rue Vaneau,  75007 Paris.

We had been hoping to celebrate his 90th birthday with him on the 24th March, but sadly that was not to be.  The sweetest man, with a gentle soul, and always a twinkle in his eye, a lover and supporter of beauty & the arts, passionate about France and French culture, appreciative of fine foods & wines shared, he will certainly be very much missed, not only by us, but also by a large circle of friends from all over the world.

Elward’s funeral service will be held on Friday afternoon, 19th March, at 14h30 in Saint Eustache, his favorite Paris Church. Although you will not be able, sadly, to attend the Funeral, we know that you will be with us in spirit.

We wanted to take the opportunity to thank all of you who continued to enquire, visit, call and write & send gifts to Elward despite the difficult context of the last year.  You were many.  We know that he was immensely grateful and appreciative of all of those gestures, and of his friendship with every one of you.  He couldn’t have said it enough.

With our love,

Patricia, Philip & Lucy Hawkes
