Frederick T. Smith ’44 died December 16, 2013, in Spruce Pine, N.C. He was born on June 18, 1920, in Ticonderoga, N.Y., and prepared for college at the Loomis School and Darrow School. He attended Bowdoin from 1940 to 1942, a member of Chi Psi fraternity. He served to captain in the Army Air Corps during World War II and was awarded an air medal with two oak clusters. He went on to attend the University of Michigan and to earn a bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1949. He worked as an accountant and in sales for E.I. DuPont International. He is survived by a son, David, and two grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Phyllis, and daughter, Martha.
