George A. Parsons Jr. ’49

George A. Parsons Jr. ’49 died in January 2014, in Greenville, S.C. He was born in Portland on May 29, 1923, and graduated from Deering High School. He served to technical sergeant in the Army Air Forces in Europe during World War II, flying 35 B-17 missions with the 8th Air Force. He was awarded European and Middle Eastern Campaign medals with five Bronze Stars, and the Air Medal with five Oak Leaf Clusters. He was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity and graduated cum laude. He worked for the Portland Pipeline Corporation for 38 years, retiring in 1988. He was a member of the First Parish Church. He is survived by son Alan Parsons, daughter Karen E. Miller, sister Barbara Congdon and three grandchildren. He was predeceased in April 1995 by his wife of nearly 46 years, Marion Elizabeth Hawkes Parsons.
