Gilbert A. Guy, 93, of Rotunda West, Florida, passed away on September 13, 2026, at Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Venice, Florida.
Born in Quincy, Massachusetts, to the late Dr. Vincent and Josephine Guy. Gilbert graduated from Quincy High School, Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine, with a B.A. degree, and Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts, with an M.B.A degree. Gilbert served in the United States Army to the rank of lieutenant during the Korean War. Gilbert married Kathleen Marie Grenier, started a family and his professional career.
Gilbert held many positions from associate director, director, hospital administrator chairman of the board, executive vice president and president, managing director, and senior associate. He was a member of the Massachusetts Hospital Association, and several hospital committees, a member of the American Hospital Association and the American College of Health Care Executives. Gilbert held certifications with the Massachusetts Department of Industrial Accidents in Ergonomics to aid train workers in the prevention of repetitive motion injuries including the design and redesign of work areas and manufacturing assembly lines.
As a hospital administrator, Gilbert had many responsibilities including personnel staffing, dealing with nursing shortages, merging of hospitals, financials and budgeting. Before retirement Gilbert served as President responsible for managing Berkshire Medical Center and was a voting member of the Board of Governors. Gilbert developed an Urgent Care Center next to the hospital before retirement.
After retirement from hospital administration Gilbert co-founded and became president of American Medical Management. AMED was a for-profit health care management and consulting services company with the focus of assisting hospital and physician group clients. He was also interested in computerization of healthcare-related software prior to his full retirement.
He supported his community by serving on board of directors for the YMCA, Chairman of School of Licensed Practical Nursing, Chairman of Career Education Council Advisory Council, member of the Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of Small Business Committee, a member on the Advisory Committee Berkshire Management Club and member of US Power Squadron, Berkshire Chapter and Pontus sic Yacht Club.
Gilbert loved fishing both streams and salt water he loved sailing, long distance swimming, tennis, golf, hiking, camping, cooking, investment management and reading business, economic literature and fiction.
Gilbert’s insatiable curiosity for the world around him allowed him to learn and master many subjects so that he participated in so many activities, adventures and to give back to the community.
Gilbert is survived by three children, daughter Sharon Guy of Rotunda West, Florida, son Daniel Guy of Sharon, Massachusetts, son David Guy (Gemma Galli) of East Walpole, Massachusetts, grandson John Guy (Deanna Ikari) of Richmond, British Columbia, Canada, grandson, Garrett Raucci (Rose Raucci) of Norton, Massachusetts, great-granddaughter Elora Raucci of Norton, Massachusetts, and great-grandson Asher Raucci of Norton, Massachusetts. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen Marie Guy of sixty-nine years.
