Hugh Pendexter III ’46 died on December 14, 2012, in Savannah, Georgia.

Hugh Pendexter III – SAVANNAH – Hugh Pendexter III, World War II naval veteran, author, devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend, Armstrong English professor Emeritus, and Christian Science Practitioner, passed on peacefully, surrounded by his family, December 14, 2012. Waste no tears on my corpse, no late bouquet, For vacant flesh, though stinking, cannot smell: I’ll squander no time on an outgrown body shell, And those who love will release me for my way. Praise me now, give me bright flowers today; Don’t prettify regrets and toll the bell. Waste no tears on my corpse, no late bouquet: For vacant flesh, though stinking, cannot smell. When I have died, take living friends to a play, Plant trees, or teach school children how to spell; Remember me in laying brickwork well, Or idly sing a skillful roundelay. Waste no tears on my corpse, no late bouquet, For vacant flesh, though stinking, cannot smell.
