Jeanne Kay LePorte G’73

Jeanne Kay LePorte, 89, of Baldwinsville, NY, passed away on Thursday at home. She was born in Fulton, NY, to the late William and Harriet (Ives) Stewart. Jeanne graduated from Fulton High School at the age of 15 and attended Cornell University, enrolled in engineering at the age of 16. Leaving Cornell to allow her brother to go to college, she enrolled in nursing school. Jeanne became an RN, serving her residency at Marcy State General Hospital. Jeanne then left nursing to become a math teacher. She continued her studies, receiving a master’s degree in mathematics from Bowdoin College and in teaching from SUNY Oswego. Jeanne was employed as a math teacher at G. Ray Bodley High School in Fulton, NY. She did all of this while raising seven children. Jeanne was an avid knitter and volunteered at the Syracuse VA Medical Center. She is predeceased by her husband of sixty years, George Roger LePorte and her two brothers, James and Leigh Stewart.

Surviving are her children, Christopher Stewart LePorte, George Roger LePorte II, Michelle Janine Getaz-Coulibaly, Bruce William LePorte, Lynette Nicole Lyons, Steven Douglas LePorte, and Jack Lawrence LePorte IV, thirteen grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, sister, Linda Bruder-Barlow, her brother, Roger Stewart, many nieces, nephews, and cousins, and many “adopted” children. Jeanne spent the majority of her life helping others. Her philosophy was our house is your house. She will be sadly missed by all who loved her.
