Belgrade — Joan Provandie MacKenzie, 83, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, September 13, 2026.
Joan was born January 28, 1943, in Melrose, MA, a daughter to the late Paul H. Provandie and Priscilla Boynton Provandie.
She was a graduate of Melrose High School in 1960 and of Westbrook Jr. College in 1962. After graduation, she worked for Verrill Dana Attorneys in Portland, Bowdoin College in Brunswick, and Rutland Regional Medical Center in Rutland, VT.
In 1988, after returning to Maine, Joan and her husband purchased Day’s Real Estate in Belgrade Lakes, which operated until 2022. She was a devoted employee of Generator’s of Maine until her passing.
Joan was a member of the Friends of the Belgrade Public Library organization which created and supports the town of Belgrade public library. She worked on many fundraisers to support local organizations including the library and the Belgrade Fire Department.
In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Richard “Mac” Mackenzie.
Joan is survived by her daughter, Denise McCarthy of Savannah, GA, and her husband, John, a son, Daniel of Belgrade and his wife, Jill; four grandchildren, Justin McCarthy, Brenna McCarthy, Julia Pickett, and Molly MacKenzie; her sisters, Judith Johnson and Janice Partridge, brother, Paul “Skip” Provandie and his wife, Pamela; and several nieces and nephews.
