Joel H. Brown ’53

Joel H. Brown ’53 died on December 12, 2016, in Westbrook, Maine.

Joel Hastings Brown Sr. passed away Dec. 12, 2016, at his home, with his family by his side.
He was born in Groveland, Mass., Jan. 11, 1931, the son of Bernard and Ruth Rollins Brown.
He attended Thornton Academy and then transferred to Wilbraham Academy in Massachusetts, where he excelled in football. After graduation, he attended Bowdoin College, then left when he enlisted in the Navy during the Korean conflict.
Joel was employed for many years as a stage hand at the Cumberland County Civic Center. He loved his job; he had many stories to tell about the entertainers and especially enjoyed the late Bob Hope. Joel also loved riding his motorcycle, and short wave radios. The late Dr. Hill in Saco taught him how to build his first radio.
He is survived by his son, Joel Hastings Brown Jr.; three grandsons, Jackson, Jesse and Jacob; and two great-grandchildren, Gianna and Jackson Jr.; and his girlfriend, Kathleen Melvin.
