John E. St. John ’58

Col. John E. St. John ’58 died June 8, 2014, in Brunswick. He was born in New York City on January 12, 1937, and graduated from Naugatuck (Conn.) High School. He was a member of Theta Delta Chi fraternity and the ROTC program. After graduation, he joined the Army and served for 26 years, completing two tours in Vietnam. He was awarded two Bronze Stars, Joint Service Commendation medal, two Army Commendation Medals, Vietnam Armed Forces Honor Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and National Defense Service Medal. He retired as a full colonel, then joined the Boeing Corporation in Philadelphia as a senior manager in the Helicopter Division. He retired in 1995 after 10 years. He enjoyed sailing, and served as commodore of the Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Gerna Hewitt St. John; daughters Jill Platt Hansen, Natalie King St. John and Page St. John Ghaphery and five grandchildren.
