John L. Rowe ’52, P’89 died on September 2, 2020 in Champlain, New York.

John L. Rowe ’52, of Champlain, NY, passed away on Wednesday, September 2, 2020. He was born in Rumford, Maine on October 10, 1930, the son of Dr. William T. ’04 and Marion Littlefield Rowe. He prepared at Stephens High School and was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity at Bowdoin.

Following his graduation from Bowdoin, John joined Ayerst Labs in Rouses Point, NY as a technical supervisor in the Tablet department. In 1957 he joined the faculty of Northeastern Clinton Central School and retired in 1989 after 32 years in the science department.

He did graduate work at SUNY Plattsburgh, the University of Vermont, Worcester Polytech and the University of Mississippi, receiving his Master’s Degree from the latter in 1970.

After retiring from teaching in 1989, John continued working for the U.S. Immigration in Champlain, NY, retiring in 2001 after 35 years of service.

In Champlain, NY he served on the Youth Commission, the Senior Housing Department and the Champlain Memorial Library volunteer staff, where he was the long-time treasurer.

He and his wife, Gerry, were frequent travelers to Europe and the British Isles.

He was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Gerry, brothers William Rowe of Lexington, MA, Dr. Linwood Rowe ’40 of Rumford; sisters Catherine Marshall, Elizabeth Kempf and Barbara Gillis, son William Thomas Rowe and grandson Matthew Rowe.

He is survived by sons Terrence Rowe and companion Karla, Scott Rowe and wife Kim, daughters Lisa Casey and husband Robert, Heather Casey and husband Joseph, and Courtney ’89 of New York City. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, and a dear friend, Virginia Guay, of Rouses Point, NY.
