John P. Begley Jr. ’46 died July 15, 2014, at his home in North Hampton, N.H. He was born in Lawrence, Mass., on October 18, 1924, and graduated from Lawrence High School. He graduated from Bowdoin in 1947, a member of Alpha Delta Phi fraternity. He served to private first class in the Army infantry during World War II, and was awarded the Purple Heart. He retired as vice president of the Bank of New England, and worked as tax collector for the town of Methuen, Mass. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Barbara Burke Begley; children Jody, Martha Jo, Jack, Jean and Sandy, and five grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, Charles M. Begley ’48.
