Jon Tobey, of Brunswick, Maine, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2025, at Maine Medical Center in Portland. He was 73.

Born on August 7, 1951, Jon grew up with a deep love of sports-especially anything involving a Boston team. If the Red Sox, Celtics, Bruins, or Patriots were playing, you could bet Jon was watching, coaching from the couch, and possibly questioning the ref’s eyesight. His passion for sports extended beyond fandom; he started playing baseball and softball in Little League and kept at it well into adulthood. In high school, he played alongside close friends Steve Swanson, Hank Petrillo, and Joe Julian, building lifelong friendships through the game.

Jon attended Boston College, where he nurtured his sharp mind and easygoing spirit. He later settled in Brunswick, where he spent many years working in the facilities department at Bowdoin College. Known around campus for his quiet dedication and friendly nature, Jon made many lasting friendships during his time there and was well-loved by those who worked alongside him.

He was predeceased by his parents, William and Jacqueline Tobey; his sister, Torrie Wolken; and her husband, Don.

Jon is survived by his sister Kimetha Dwyer and her husband Joseph, who held a special place in his heart (and possibly his speed dial), as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

He will be remembered for his warm heart, love of laughter, and an uncanny ability to make friends anywhere-grocery lines, waiting rooms, and just about every room he ever walked into.
