Noel F. Austin, beloved husband, family man, esteemed Air Force officer, and passionate outdoorsman, passed away peacefully at the age of 85 on April 16, 2025, surrounded by his family. Born on July 15, 1939, in Montpelier, VT, and then raised in Fryeburg, ME, Noel cultivated a love for the outdoors at an early age, which would become a defining part of his life. He attended Fryeburg Academy and then Bowdoin College in Maine, and soon married the love of his life, Judith Allen, from Bridgton, Maine. He joined the United States Air Force, dedicating over twenty-six years to his country, including service in Vietnam. He served with honor and distinction and was awarded the Bronze Star and other commendations. His leadership and commitment earned him the respect of his peers. He retired with the rank of colonel in 1988, and he and Judith moved to New Mexico to enjoy their later years, which included many US and European travels. Noel was a true adventurer at heart. In his free time, he could be found casting a line into a lake or stream, shooting skeet or trap, or hunting in the great outdoors. The thrill of a successful hunting trip or a well-timed shot brought him joy. Noel was a loving and devoted husband to his beloved wife, Judith. He took pride in being a father to his children, teaching them the values of hard work, respect, and integrity. Noel was never boring and always spoke his mind, which left a lasting impact on everyone who crossed his path. Noel was a devout Catholic and proud of his faith. He is survived by his wife, Judith, his children Allen (Christine), Amy (Rick), and Mark (Carol Ann), and his grandchildren, Alaina (Thomas), Sarah (Richard), Madison, Abbey, Skye (Paul), Jamie (Jon), Haley, Jake, and Colby, as well as many relatives, and friends.
